e-Skills Hub | Gauteng @ University of Pretoria

The main objective of the Gauteng eSkills Hub is to produce knowledge and coordinate existing and new efforts in developing e-skills within the scope of South Africa’s Medium Term Strategic Framework (MTSF), the National e-Skills Plan of Action (NeSPA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Specifically, the Gauteng eSkills Hub aims to on promote the social appropriation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Entrepreneurship and the Creative Industries and in so doing build the capabilities of a broad spectrum of members of the South African society to allow them to productively participate in the information society and knowledge economies. Further to this, we expect to create the appropriate evaluation processes, pedagogy, training, policy development and project delivery

Mission

To establish the Gauteng e-Skills Knowledge Production and Coordination Hub with a focus on e-Entrepreneurship skills within the Creative Industries

Pilot project | e-Entrepreurship

We embarked on a pilot e-Entrepreneurship programme by enrolling 20 people from the rural community of Siyabuswa onto a highly successful Entrepreneurship course delivered by Continuing Education at the University of Pretoria (CEatUP). The purpose was for the participating Gauteng eSkills Hub researchers to gain access to, observe the course and recommend appropriate means in which ICT can be leveraged as part of the successful programme. The entrepreneurs identified were then trained on the identified e-Skills which included Web 2.0 technologies. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to find out more.
